【摘要】:Atmosphericcorrosionofmetallicmaterialsisafunctionofmanyweatherandatmosphericvariables.Theeffectofspecificcorrodants,suchassulfurdioxide,canacceleratetheatmosphericcorrosionofmetalssignificantly.ThesulfationplatemethodprovidesasimpletechniquetoindependentlymonitorthelevelofSO2intheatmospheretoyieldaweightedaverageresult.SulfationplateresultsmaybeusedtocharacterizeatmosphericcorrosiontestsitesregardingtheeffectiveaveragelevelofSO2intheatmosphereattheselocations.Sulfationplatetestingisusefulindeterminingmicroclimate,seasonal,andlongtermvariationsintheeffectiveaveragelevelofSO2.TheresultsofsulfationplatetestsmaybeusedincorrelationsofatmosphericcorrosionrateswithatmosphericdatatodeterminethesensitivityofthecorrosionratetoSO2level.Thesulfationplatemethodmayalsobeusedwithothermethodstocharacterizetheatmosphereatsiteswherebuildingsorotherconstructionisplannedinordertodeterminetheextentofprotectivemeasuresrequiredformetallicmaterials.1.1ThispracticecoversaweightedaverageeffectiveSO2levelfora30-dayintervalthroughtheuseofthesulfationplatemethod,atechniqueforestimatingtheeffectiveSO2contentoftheatmosphere,andespeciallywithregardtotheatmosphericcorrosionofstationarystructuresorpanels.ThispracticeisaimedatdeterminingSO2levelsratherthansulfuricacidaerosoloracidprecipitation.1.2TheresultsofthispracticecorrelateapproximatelywithvolumetricSO2concentrations,althoughthepresenceofdeworcondensedmoisturetendstoenhancethecaptureofSO2intotheplate.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
